Thrum Rocks
A five
minute walk downstream from Rothbury, along the tree lined pathway called
“Lovers’ Walk”, The River Coquet takes on a whole new personality at The Thrum.
Here the slow, meandering river is for ced through a narrow gor ge, causing the placid water to pick
up speed and become an urgent tumbling tor rent. It’s a place of noisy cascades, deep, dark
shadows and bright reflected sunlight. The relentless water has scoured and sculpted the submerged rock into
scalloped frills. For generations people have carved
their names into the exposed rocks, creating a palimpsest of Nor thumbrian surnames.
